Horses are back to the Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey

Horses are back to the Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey

Working with horses was obvious for Mr Silvio Denz, the owner, and his teams for several reasons. Using horses implies a huge decrease in the carbon emissions and then lowers our environmental footprint.

This technic also favours a much deeper roots development as the packing of the soil and subsoil is decreased thanks to a drop in heavy mechanised machines traffic.

This high-precision work is beneficial to our vineyard and we already see a real change. Using observation method, Yannick our vineyard manager, will organise different horsepower work throughout the year according to the vegetative state of the grapevine.

Next week, horses will be at the Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey to plough the ridges. This task involves removing the mound of soil under the vine stock made last fall to protect them for wintertime, as you can see on the picture.

Lafaurie-Peyraguey is one of the few castles to work with horses for all their vineyards, not only a part of them. You will have the opportunity to catch sight of them, staying at the LALIQUE Hotel and Restaurant or visiting the vineyard.
